Healthy snacking tips by Santa Claus

He's coming! He's coming! You can't have Christmas without Santa, sweet treats and presents. But how do you make sure your children don't overindulge on sugar?

With fats, sugars, and fast food being readily available, many children have an unhealthy diet nowadays. A Child Nutrition course will show you how to keep your children happy and healthy through a balanced nutrition schedule. Our Nutrition teacher already has some tips prepared:

Some sweets are healthy

You can use Christmas to give your children the vitamins and nutrients they need. Oranges and tangerines embody the Christmas spirit while being sweet and good for us! The color orange also pairs beautifully with all the chocolate and biscuits on the table!

Quality over quantity

Quality is always more important than quantity, even moreso when it comes to nutrition. For example, always choose high-quality chocolates instead of filling your shopping cart to the brim with cheap candy. It's much better to go with a special, healthy piece of dark chocolate with real cocoa, or an artisanal Christmas biscuit.

Don't bring too much candy into the house

Pay attention to what you buy. If you have two kinds of candy at home, that's usually enough. The more sugar there is available, the more you'll eat - naturally. That's a lot of empty calories with very little nutritional value.

Take matters into your own hands

If you want something done right, do it yourself. You can find many recipes online for healthy treats for every occasion. Home cooking is a great way to keep track of what ingredients go into each dish and avoid unhealthy additives. Also, you control how much sugar and flavorings you put in, and if you don't like how sweet/caloric a recipe is, you can always change that.
